Robust Intelligence Collaborates with Hitachi Solutions to Support AI Governance

Product Updates

Robust Intelligence and Hitachi Solutions, Ltd. have announced a joint partnership to support the safe and secure development and deployment of AI applications.

Robust Intelligence was founded in 2019 to provide AI security solutions to leading companies in the finance, insurance, HR, and tech industries, both domestically and internationally. We also participate in policy discussions around AI risk management at the LDP Project Team on AI Evolution and Implementation and the US Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute Consortium, providing knowledge to ensure the safety and reliability of AI.

With the recent advances in generative AI technology, the possibilities for its business applications have expanded greatly. Keeping up with this wave of AI utilization is a top priority on many companies' agendas.

On the other hand, AI applications involve various risks in terms of operation, ethics, and security that are qualitatively and quantitatively different from those of conventional software. If inputs and model outputs contain errors or harmful content, they may damage corporate value. Managing such risks is another unavoidable management issue that is inextricably linked to the utilization of AI. In fact, advanced companies have already begun to develop internal rules surrounding AI and to verify and improve the risks of their AI models and services at the same time they promote the use of AI.

In addition, the "Guidelines for AI Business Operators" issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, as well as other related guidelines in Japan and overseas, are increasingly calling for voluntary efforts by companies.

Hitachi first introduced Robust Intelligence in-house in 2022 and has been working with us for about a year for internal AI risk validation. Both Hitachi and Robust Intelligence are also early members of the AI Governance Association (AIGA) and are actively participating in conversations around policies, systems, and AI governance practices.

With the growing need for AI security solutions, Robust Intelligence and Hitachi Solutions have partnered to provide a joint solution based on Hitachi’s experience in operating the Robust Intelligence platform and deep understanding of AI governance. They will provide consistent support for companies developing and deploying AI technologies.

Hitachi Solutions’ extensive client network, advanced technological capabilities, and knowledge of various AI-related solutions, together with Robust Intelligence, will make it possible to provide total support from AI development to risk management and operation.

This partnership will enable more companies to realize AI risk management, and will also contribute to the promotion of AI utilization by Japanese companies through consistent support enabled by Hitachi Solutions.

“Hitachi Solutions is very pleased to collaborate with RI, a world leader in the area of AI governance,” said Kyoko Tsukiori, Executive Officer and General Manager of Hitachi’s IT Platform Division. “Generative AI and AI utilization are becoming increasingly important these days, and we expect that Robust Intelligence will support the promotion of safe and secure AI utilization, thereby accelerating the realization of DX in Japanese enterprises. We have been a member of AIGA since its inception, and we will continue to contribute to the development of AI governance through the activities of AIGA.”

Kojin Oshiba, co-founder of Robust Intelligence, echoed these sentiments. “Robust Intelligence offers an AI risk management platform that verifies and prevents quality, ethical, and security risks throughout the entire AI lifecycle. We are very pleased to be able to bring the value of our platform to an even wider range of customers through our distributor agreement with Hitachi Solutions, which has a solid track record with the Japanese financial, manufacturing, and distribution industries, as well as the high technical capabilities of the Hitachi Group, which provides world-class quality. AI is the core technology that will be the foundation of the next society. To promote safe and secure use of AI, we will work with Hitachi Solutions to support our customers' AI risk management.”
